THE LATE TOMASIN NOLAN

The local community was saddened to hear of the recent death of Tomasin Nolan, Clandouglas. Tomasin enjoyed a long and healthy life until the few years when that old spirit and humour was absent. Tomasin grew up when this state was in its infancy, when hardship and scarcity were an accepted part of life, yet never a man to complain or dwell on the past and like so many others of his era he turned to hurling to escape the boredom of life. He was also blessed in having a wonderful pillar of support for nearly 60 years in his beloved Nance- a kind hearted and wonderful wife and mother.

As a hurler Tomasin was deemed a legend among his fellow players, he played with the best and he surpassed the best, not only did he dominate Kerry Hurling himself but he saw all his sons play for Crotta. He also saw Cyril and Todd adorn Kerry hurling with distinction. Todd being acknowledged as one of Kerry's supreme hurling artists.

Tomasin talents were recognised at the young age of 19 when won his first county senior championship medal and he was still a leading light 14 years later in 1957 when he suffered his second county final defeat. The intervening years had brought much fame at club and county level- 6 County Senior championship medals which included the Three in a row 1943/4/5 and the double 50/51 as well as the 47 victory. He also had the honour of captaining the 1951 winning side.

Tomasin was inducted into the Crotta GAA Club's Hall of Fame in 1990. He shares the honour with many of the greats who donned the Green and Red of Crotta so proudly in the past.

Tomasin's other great passion was card playing and he proved to be as formidable opponent at card table as he had been on the hurling field. In truth he got the greatest pleasure from obtaining tricks by stealth in spite of vigilance of his fellow card players. Here again his hand and eye co-ordination were unsurpassed.

Tomasin has now joined the majority of his former colleagues up above but his legacy lives on and will be carried forward by grandsons Richard, Shane, Raymond and Dominic and other young Crotta hurlers.

To his family we extend our deepest sympathy. Ar Dheis lamh De go Raibh A Anam Dilis.

THANK You!

Sr. Siobhan Moynihan of Kerry General Hospital has acknowledged receipt of € 450 proceeds from the Denis Lynch Golf Outing. She has expressed sincere thanks on behalf of the patients and staff in the Oncology Unit as these contributions helps to fund and run some of the auxiliary services to support fundamental care at the hospital.

UNDER 8 & 10 INDOOR TRAINING
